Botanical Description

Dalbergia peltieri is a deciduous shrub or small tree, rarely growing more than 10 metres tall[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ]. The tree is selectively felled in the wild for its timber, which is used locally. Although Dalbergia peltieri has a quite wide distribution range in Madagascar, and appears to be fairly common at present, it is found in a vegetation type that has been severely degraded - it is in fact estimated that the western dry forest has reduced by approximately 40% since the 1970's, and that since human settlement of this region, an estimated 97% of the island’s dry deciduous western forests have been destroyed, and those remaining are extremely localized and isolated. In addition, the tree is selectively felled for mainly local use of its timber. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
