Botanical Description

Agathis orbicula is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 40 metres tall. The tree is harvested from the wild for commercial use of its wood. Logging of Agathis specis in Borneo involves all members of the genus found in lowland to lower montane forest habitats. Of the seven localities documented by herbarium collections of Agathis orbicula, only two appear to be within protected areas. From these circumstances a continuing decline of mature trees in the population is inferred. The plant is classified as 'Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
