Botanical Description

Smilax rotundifolia is a prickly, deciduous to evergreen climbing shrub producing a cluster of branching stems from a rhizomatous rootstock. The stems can be 6 metres or more long, scranbling into the surrounding growth for support, and attaching themselves by means of their tendrils. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a food and a medicine.
