Botanical Description
Harpalyce cubensis is a shrub or small tree growing 2 - 3 metres. The tree is harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. Harpalyce cubensis is endemic to Cuba, where its habitat is known to be subject to conversion to agricultural land. The subsistence slash and burn agriculture, has lead to the loss of much of the primary vegetation cover, though this species is known to persist within the secondary regrowth vegetation. It is not specifically known to occur within a protected area and seeds have yet to be collected and stored to conserve this taxon ex situ. The plant is classified as 'Near Threatened' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
