Phylloxylon decipiens is a deciduous shrub or a tree tree The tree is commonly harvested from the wild for local use of its very hard, durable, wood. This species is known only from a very restricted area of north-east Madagascar, where its range (based mainly on old records) is estimated to be 250 square kilometers, and is likely to be considerably smaller. It is declining through habitat destruction and the selective cutting of its highly sought-after timber.
