Botanical Description

Embelia upembensis is an evergreen shrub growing up to 2.5 metres tall The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a source of fuel. Embelia upembensis has a small native range in the DR Congo and Zambia, where it is found in nine distinct sites. Its habitat is threatened by mining operations, agricultural expansion, forest clearing and logging. Two sites near Lubumbashi (Kumanua and Luishishi) are disappearing or are already gone due to mining. This habitat degradation is predicted to continue in the future.
