Botanical Description

Podocarpus borneensis is an evergreen tree usually growing from 5 - 12 metres tall but sometimes reaching 23 metres and occasionally no more than a shrub 2 metres tall. The bole can vary from 3 - 21cm in diameter[ 329 Title The Gymnosperm Database Publication Author Website http://www.conifers.org/index.htm Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A vast amount of information on conifers and families of gymnosperms. ]. Where Podocarpus borneensis occurs in lowland kerangas forest, there is likely to have been some decline due to conversion of forest for oil plantations and other uses. However, the majority of trees and subpopulations occur on mountain ridges in ‘mossy forest’ and where these are situated in remoter parts of the interior decline is unlikely to occur. It is believed that most locations are not threatened and the species does not meet the criteria for a threatened category. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
