Botanical Description

Phylloxylon xiphoclada is an evergreen tree. The tree is harvested from the wild for its wood, which is used locally. This species was last recorded over 40 years ago from a single very restricted area estimated to cover less than 10 square kilometers at Tampoketsa d'Ankazobe in central Madagascar. The vegetation is extremely degraded and declining and few small remnant forested patches remain.
