Botanical Description
Juniperus coahuilensis is an evergreen shrub or a tree with a flattened-globose to irregular to round crown; it can grow up to 8 metres tall. The plant often produces a single-stem up to 1 metre long, though it can be branched from the base[ 270 Title Flora of N. America Publication Author Website http://flora.huh.harvard.edu/fna/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description An on-line version of the flora with an excellent description of the plant including a brief mention of plant uses. ]. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a food and source of materials. It has potential for use as a pioneer species for re-establishing native woodland. Although this species has not been collected extensively (and many records are misidentified), it is clear that it has a very large extent of occurrence and is not declining. In western Texas there is evidence of increase, probably related to changes in land management and use. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
