Botanical Description

Dalbergia hildebrandtii is a deciduous tree usually growing up to 10 metres tall, but sometimes larger[ 299 Title Protabase - Plant Resources of Tropical Africa. Publication Author Website http://www.prota.org Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description An excellent on-line database with detailed information on over 3,200 species of useful plants of Africa. ]. The tree is selectively felled in the wild for its good quality wood. Dalbergia hildebrandtii is threatened primarily by illegal logging for its valuable timber, and also because of habitat loss due to shifting agriculture and the clearing of the forest for charcoal production. Although it is widespread in northern Madagascar, the species is becoming more uncommon as its habitat is being gradually reduced and fragmented by human activity. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(20191)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
