Botanical Description

Cyclopia bolusii is a much-branched shrub The plant is commonly harvested from the wild for mainly local use as a tea. Known as honeybush tea, it is a very popular drink in S. Africa and is becoming more popular globally. All the species in the genus can be used to make the tea though most of them, like this species, are mainly harvested on a local basis and are not widely traded. Cyclopia bolusii is restricted to a small area in the Cape of S. Africa, and the total population is estimated to be fewer than 1,000 mature individuals. The plant is threatened by harvesting for use as a tea and also by groundwater extraction.
